Tantra

Tantra

The word Tantra comes from the Sanskrit root tan (तन्) meaning “to expand, stretch, or weave,” and tra (त्र) meaning “instrument” or “method.” Thus, Tantra means a system or method for expansion — expansion of consciousness, energy and being.

Tantra embraces life in its totality, seeing the body, senses and worldly experiences as tools for Moksha (liberation). It harmonizes and transcends the duality of existence — Shiva (pure consciousness) and Shakti (manifested energy).

Tantra is the essence of yogic transformation. Tantra is not just about balance, it’s about alchemy, the transformation of raw human experience into divine realization. Yoga harmonizes & heals the body-mind-spirit complex. Tantra transcends & integrates all polarities into the realization of the Absolute (Parabrahman). In Mahāmudrā one directly experiences the cosmic unity beyond all conceptual thought – a state of absolute presence and infinite love.

Tantra is that which liberates (trayate) by expanding (tanoti) the mind and energy (Kularnava Tantra)

Traditional Key Aspects of Tantra:

1. Shiva-Shakti Union – Harmonizing the dual forces within to achieve spiritual awakening.

2. Kundalini & Chakras – Activation of the inner energy system to reach divine consciousness

3. Mantra, Yantra & Mudra – Sacred sound, geometric patterns and gestures to channel energy.

4. Ritual & Devotion (Bhakti Tantra) – Worship as a form of unity with the Divine.

5. Left-Hand (Vama Marga) & Right-Hand (Dakshina Marga) Tantra – Path of internal vs. external ritual practices.

6. Soma & Amrita – The elixir of divine nectar, often linked to inner alchemical processes.

The highest realization in Tantra is “Aham Brahmasmi” (I am Brahman) & “Ayam Atma Brahma” (My soul is the supreme soul) – where the individual soul dissolves into the infinite.

Tantra is thus not just an energetic practice but a holistic path of self-realization, transcendence and cosmic union.
